These companies are known as “Alternative Retail Electric Companies” (ALREC) or “Alternative Retail Electric Suppliers” (ARES) throughout the United States and many class action lawsuits have been filed against such companies on behalf of consumers like you have noticed higher monthly utility bills.

Through the “Plug In” Illinois program, and other similar programs in every state in the country, consumers have been free to switch to an ALREC/ARES seller and purchase electricity on rates set by the companies instead of the rates approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission (or other state regulatory agency) on a regulated basis. Many of the ALREC/ARES sellers offer a first year fixed cost agreement that renews into a fluctuating price that we believe might be an inaccurate representation of actual market prices.  The potential for overcharges on your utility bills for energy, electricity or gas are unfair to you the consumer.  If you have purchased electricity from any resale company in the United States, even if not mentioned above, we would like to speak with you about your experience so please contact us.  By allowing us to investigate your situation, we can determine whether you have been overcharged for electricity and whether a class action lawsuit against these energy service companies may be filed for overcharging for electricity.
